After winning the Prize for Best Director at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival with On Tour [trailer, film focus], Mathieu Amalric (whom we will see this year on the Croisette in the cast of two films in competition, Jimmy P. by Desplechin and Venus in Fur by Polanski) is working on the pre-production of his fifth feature film as a director: The Blue Room. Based on the novel with the same title by Georges Simenon, the screenplay, which was co-written by Mathieu Amalric and Stéphanie Cléau, focuses on a man and woman who make love in secret in a bedroom, desire and long for each other, even bite each other. Then they exchange a few banalities after making love. Or at least that's what the man believes... The film's production is being handled by Paulo Branco for Alfama Films, which will launch its pre-sales at the Film Market at the 66th Cannes Film Festival
